Volunteer Opportunities

Join the Foster Fam!
We rely on families in our community to open up their homes to an animal in need and help get these animals adoption-ready. These foster fams allow us to have space available at the Lodge to take in more animals in need.
To be a foster parent, you must be:
  • Be at least 21 years old
  • Live within Pierce or King County (*can work with those in surrounding areas on a case-by-case basis)
  • Be able to communicate with our Services Coordinator on a weekly basis through text messages, emails, and provide photo updates to the Service Coordinator when requested
  • All animals within your home must be up-to-date on vaccines and be sterilized as species appropriate
  • Be committed to providing a home for this animal until the animal gets adopted
  • Be available for home visits as necessary
  • Be flexible in coordinating adoption meet ups and events
We can provide all necessary items needed for our foster animal (such as cage, bedding, food) but we kindly ask that our foster homes be able to supply items that will need to be replenished over time (such as food, bedding). This helps us be able to use what we have for the animals at the Lodge.

Cleaning+Cuddles Crew!
Lala’s Lodge is located in the Edgewood/Milton area and often has volunteers come out to help clean cages and socialize with the animals! But don't be fooled by the cuddles, there's still lots of work to do!
To volunteer at the Lodge, you must:
  • Be 18 years old or have a parent/guardian present with you
  • Be able to stand, kneel, squat, and use a ladder
  • Be able to lift at least 40 lbs
  • Be prepared to get dirty
  • Be capable of handling hay/grass
  • Be able to commit to at least a 2-hour shift, preferably 2hrs/week, for minimum of 6 weeks.
We will train anyone interested in volunteering with us. We know many children may be interested in spending time with the animals but we also want to make the best use of our time by ensuring that their care needs are met first. Volunteering can be fun but it can also be a lot of work!

Taxi Team!
Lala’s Taxi Team helps transport animals all over our state. This could mean going and saving an animal in need and getting it to the Lodge, or it could mean helping transport animals to their forever home.
To be a part of our Taxi Team, you must:
  • Be 16 years old with valid drivers license
  • Have valid car insurance
  • Have access to a reliable vehicle
  • Be able to travel to Pierce/King county if needed
  • Be willing to travel certain distances
  • Be flexible in order to meet the needs of the animals
  • Have travel carriers available for small animals (is a bonus but can be provided)
This position is mainly on-call and is helpful to us, as needed. Sometimes we get calls for emergency rescues and often depend on our Taxi Team to be flexible and be able to drive/meet us on short notice. We also have adoptions scheduled ahead of time that we ask our team to step in and help transport these animals to their forever home.

Go-Go Groomers!
There’s still quite some misinformation out there about grooming that small animals require. Although majority exotic mammals don’t need baths, they still need their nails trimmed and glands checked, etc. And grooming can be so expensive, especially when it’s mainly veterinary offices that will groom exotics. So we have a dedicated group of self-taught groomers that open up their homes to grooming for the public. All proceeds go directly to the rescue.
To be a part of our Go-Go Groomers, you must:
  • Be 18 years old or have parent/guardian approval
  • Have experience with grooming animals
  • Have ability to travel to grooming appointments (if needed or requested)
  • Be willing to open home to grooming other animals
  • Have a pair of clippers and styptic powder on hand (Q-tips and mineral oil is a bonus)
  • Have a small animal travel carrier available
This position is mainly on-call and is helpful to us, as needed. Sometimes we get calls for emergency rescues and often depend on our Taxi Team to be flexible and be able to drive/meet us on short notice. We also have adoptions scheduled ahead of time that we ask our team to step in and help transport these animals to their forever home.
